Runaway Jury Review

Tuesday, October 28th, 2003

As promised, my review of Runaway Jury:

Saturday, Matt and I went to see Runaway Jury. I was really excited to see this movie as I am a big Grisham fan and I also adore John Cusack.

It was, at best, an o.k. movie. It had some great moments and pretty good acting but just didn’t have the movement I wanted. The Firm, you may remember, had great acceleration, pushing you to the end in a frenzied pace. This movie tended to plod along and the ending was really no suprise. Matt commented during it that it really needed to pick up. I reminded him that Grisham always starts out slow, flooding you with character development and detail, before you get to the action. Unfortunately, the action never really gets where you want it to go. The best part of the whole movie was during a lull, Matt leaned over and kissed my ear.

John Cusack, Dustin Hoffman and Gene Hackman all turned in good performances, which came as no suprise.

In summation, (I’ve always wanted to say that) this is a likable movie with a couple of good twists, but you probably can wait for video.

Going to see Runaway Jury with Matt tomorrow night. I am really excited to see this film as I am a huge John Cusack fan and I also really like Grisham.

I will review on Monday as I am without a puter unless I am at work.

Pizza and smelly socks

Friday, October 24th, 2003

Took my son and niece to “Chuck and Cheese” last night. (Christian calls it that.)
We had pizza and then the two of them took off to wander the tube/slide thingy, which is where the smelly socks come in.

We played the silly games they have there…I did well at skeeball. We ended up winning 92 tickets which we traded for a whoopie cushion and a Hulk ruler.

Sweetest Day

Monday, October 20th, 2003

For grins, Matt, Shelly, Brian and I went out to “celebrate” Sweetest Day. Really just a lame excuse to have a date, as if we needed one.

We agreed to see Kill Bill, hardly a romantic flim, but anyone who knows my sweetie Matt shouldn’t be suprised.

Now for my review on Kill Bill:

EWWWW!!!!

Seriously though, not at all the type of film I would enjoy watching. I am not a big Tarantino fan at all, which I realize makes me quite uncool, but so be it. While I can appreciate his innovative style of directing which often times results in amazing image composition, I just can’t get into the ridiculous amount of violence. Luckily, in Kill Bill, the violence is soooooo over the top that it didn’t gross me out as much as I had expected.

The score was quite ingenious.

Matt said,
“I describe it as blaxploitation/spaghetti western/tribal drums fusion.”
Of course he described it perfectly.

After the movie, we went to Seven 30 South. Everyone had a great meal except for Brian who could only rave about his side of cottage cheese. A bit of a spendy joint for four poor kids, but fun nonetheless.

School of Rock

Tuesday, October 7th, 2003

Matt and I went to see School of Rock last night. What a great movie!!! I really laughed out loud quite a few times and the kids in this movie were priceless.

Joan Cusack was incredibly funny as the straight laced school principal. She has to be one of my favorite comedic actresses.

Jack Black was, of course, zany and over the top and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

Definitely a great show for anyone over 9 years old.
