New Apartment

Tuesday, October 7th, 2003

I found a new apartment! I am so relieved to have found a decent one in my price range. The pickin’s were slim and I was beginning to lose hope.

The first apartment that I looked at was in a nice location. The compliments end there. It was a large house that they had pieced out into apartments. The studio was located in the attic. Not a bad arrangement except that the rickety stairs that led up to the place would definitely have brought me to my death eventually. I am not graceful and I like to wear funky shoes from time to time. One snow storm and I would be screwed.

The kitchen area had wood floors that they ruined by painting with grey paint. The fridge was harvest gold colored so you know that probably smelled awful and ran loudly. It did have a cute antique piece in it, a sort of a hutch thing that had been put in there to provide more counter and storage space.

The bathroom was horrid. Dirty, red tile and with my plentiful figure, hardly enough room to turn around. I didn’t look in the stall shower but I was afraid I might show my horror to the landlord.

The “living area” had a closet and a free standing heat register. The carpet was nothing short of disgusting. Ever heard of a steam cleaner?

The second place I “looked” at didn’t even get me through the door. Again, great location but horrible building. I got really depressed thinking about going home there everyday. The building was the worst for blocks. Plus the guy that was showing the apartment was pretty thick on the phone so I quickly decided to cross that one off my list.

Then I found my home. It is a pretty good neighborhood in Denver, lots of college students and restaurants and such. The manager is very sweet and the apartment is clean and even cute. I knew it might be a good deal when she called me and was worried what I would think of the view.

The kitchen is small and has a trash compactor?! It used to have the stove, fridge and sink all in one metal unit it appears. They replaced the fridge with the compactor and put in a full sized fridge.

The bathroom is really cool. It has a separate area for the vanity and sink with a sort of a dressing area and closet. The shower area has aqua colored tile. I am looking forward to go shopping for accessories.

The rest of the space is run of the mill, but very clean. YAY!!!

I move in this Thursday.

Helpful Hints my Ass!

Friday, October 3rd, 2003

So I come home today to find out that my son was given gum and his caregiver didn’t have him spit it out before bedtime.

You guessed it. Bright green gum in his hair and partially stuck to his ear.

I am distraught for a moment but then I remember that for a wedding gift I got a helpful hints book that covers everything from how to remove water rings from the coffee table to how to repair a broken fan belt in your car using a pair of pantyhose.

I scanned for gum removal and they stated that raw egg whites will remove gum from anything including hair.

I dashed to the fridge and was relieved to find I had eggs and escorted the boy and a bowl of whites to the bath tub.

After many tears and a few choice words from me, I went to the office and got a pair of scissors.

Sigh. Luckily his hair is short and it isn’t too noticable.

I guess I could have tried a couple of other methods I have heard of but when you are dealing with a screaming toddler, the quickest method is sometimes the best.

UGH!

The lack of blogging is directly related to the level of complication in my life. That said, I am looking for a place to move. The rent is astounding and I have next to no income because I am choosing to move out and still have obligations.

Sigh.

So if you know of a super cheap studio, 400 or less, let me know.

Speaking of Jobs

Thursday, September 25th, 2003

I am pretty poor and have been looking for a second job. They aren’t easy to come by and I really don’t want to work 24/7 so I have been looking for a job that pays more than minimum wage and one where my hours can be pretty flexible.

Looky what I found….

Holding my breath

Thursday, September 25th, 2003

I am sooooo holding my breath that Matt gets this job he is interviewing for. If he doesn’t I am afraid he might go where the IT jobs are more plentiful, and damnit, I am just starting to get sweet on him.
Go by here and wish him luck.

Breaking all the rules

I’m afraid I’ve broken all the rules on this one.
