Oprah Wake up Call

Tuesday, October 25th, 2005

I haven’t had much time to blog, so this post is a little tardy, but still relevant.

I tape Oprah every day and usually get around to watching most of them. I usually skip through the shows that aren’t too interesting to me, which is the great thing about owning a DVR.

Anyhow, the other day she had Dr. Oz on her show talking about the number one killer of women in America. Heart disease. I have been concerned about breast cancer lately since it is Breast Cancer Awareness month. I do my self exams and go in once a year for a check up so I figure I am doing all I can there.

I had no idea, however, how deadly heart disease is. One in two women will die of heart disease!!! That statistic astounded me. I really was shocked to hear that, but feel so great that I have made a commitment to my health and have started to exercise and take off the weight. A sedentary lifestyle is horrible for your heart and so was the high fat diet I used to consume.

I guess I already knew all of this, but the show really brought it home for me. Life is precious. It’s a gift. We need to respect ourselves enough to treat our bodies with care so that we can live the best life possible for as long as possible. I hope that with the changes I am making that I will be the one of the two who is heart disease free.

Feeling Better

Tuesday, October 25th, 2005

I went in to the weight loss center yesterday and feel some better about the gain situation. I weighed in only four tenths
more than last Wednesday so I appear to be on a downward trend again. The proof will be Thursday when I go in again to check on progress.
Meanwhile, I continue to work out and stick to the program. I lifted weights for an hour yesterday and then logged in 50 minutes on the elliptical trainer. Then I went to deep water aerobics and really worked hard there. Hopefully all of this hard work will begin to pay off.

Rough Weekend

Sunday, October 23rd, 2005

I have had a rough couple of days on the weight loss front. Last Monday, I did a program with LA Weight Loss called Take Off. I’m not allowed to publish the details of this program since it is proprietary information. Basically, it is a two day, very low calorie “cleanse”. It is supposed to rev up your metabolism and help you take off some extra weight rapidly. I lost 2.5 pounds over the two day program. That, of course, was great news, I’ll take any loss I can get.

The trouble started Friday. I weighed, as I normally do, in the morning prior to going in to the center. I do this to prevent any suprises. To my horror, I had gained 10 pounds! Well, I had been following my diet to the letter other than a slip up with one eggroll, and it takes 3500 extra calories to gain one pound. So, no eggroll on earth is 35,000 calories.

I knew it must be water weight, but it was still terribly disappointing and hard to take. I feel like I have been the model dieter. I have followed my program and exercised 6-7 days a week for 6 weeks. To have my body react in this way seemed cruel and unusual.

After a lot of tears, soul searching and internet research I decided that I just need to hide the scale, bump up my B vitamins, and increase my water intake.

So, hopefully, when I weigh in tomorrow, I will find that the gain is gone and I can resume losing again.

Wish me luck!

Great Day

Saturday, October 15th, 2005

I had such an awesome day today.

We slept in and I awoke to weigh in and find I have lost a total of 20 pounds now with the help of my diet, and fitness plans.

Then we went to our health clinic for drive by flu shots. That was so great! It took like 5 minutes and they literally give you the shot right through your car window. Quick and mostly painless. With all the talk about the flu and having a boy in preschool, we figured it was a smart move to get immunized.

Next we took a drive to find this at a place in Colorado Springs that claimed to have it on their website for a really good price. When we arrived, they were sold out. That was sort of disappointing, but Matt says he’ll just get it for me on Amazon. I’m such a creature of instant gratification!

Since we were in lovely Colorado Springs we decided to go to Garden of the Gods. It was such nice weather and the views are breathtaking. I got in a decent walk around the park for some exercise, and we also got some great pictures.

When we came home, we decided that we needed to go and buy some firewood. So we took the WRX and went to Pioneer Sand Company and loaded it up with 730 pounds of oak. More workout for the day!!! Hauling that to the opposite end of the backyard by hand really worked up a sweat for both of us.

I’m Back!

Friday, October 14th, 2005

Yeah, I know. I haven’t written in here for about two years. Are you allowed to start over?

In the past two years I got divorced, went bankrupt, quit my job, got married (to Matt Moore), went on a cruise, got a job, quit that job, got a dog… and that’s just the beginning!

Right now I am working on being:

A good homemaker.
A great mom.
A fitness freak.
Much thinner.
A good friend.

Among other things.

So, I will be dedicating this space to my fitness updates, weight loss success and hardships, and mom stuff, and whatever else comes to mind, since it’s my blog I guess I can do whatever I want! OOOOOOHHHHHH power!!!!

Thanks for reading.
