Oprah Wake up Call
Tuesday, October 25th, 2005I haven’t had much time to blog, so this post is a little tardy, but still relevant.
I tape Oprah every day and usually get around to watching most of them. I usually skip through the shows that aren’t too interesting to me, which is the great thing about owning a DVR.
Anyhow, the other day she had Dr. Oz on her show talking about the number one killer of women in America. Heart disease. I have been concerned about breast cancer lately since it is Breast Cancer Awareness month. I do my self exams and go in once a year for a check up so I figure I am doing all I can there.
I had no idea, however, how deadly heart disease is. One in two women will die of heart disease!!! That statistic astounded me. I really was shocked to hear that, but feel so great that I have made a commitment to my health and have started to exercise and take off the weight. A sedentary lifestyle is horrible for your heart and so was the high fat diet I used to consume.
I guess I already knew all of this, but the show really brought it home for me. Life is precious. It’s a gift. We need to respect ourselves enough to treat our bodies with care so that we can live the best life possible for as long as possible. I hope that with the changes I am making that I will be the one of the two who is heart disease free.
